Junior running competition can be seen as any other team sport, but is more based on firefighting techniques from yesteryear. It has been established to involve younger people in the fire brigade and hopefully for them to join the brigade and the senior running team when they are of eligible age.

The events involve fire fighting techniques used 100 years ago. These techniques have been altered to make competitive events possible.

The competition is open for both male and female competitors, ages form 11 to 17 years of age.

The competition is split into sub-juniors, aged 11 to 13 and juniors aged 14 to 16. Competitions are held from Perth to Katanning in the period from September to November.

The parents of the competitors are also active with judging, canteen duties and transporting to the various demos.
